Diabetes had fallen out of the international dialogue, and efforts to change that were fractured. The 343,000,000 people worldwide with type 2 diabetes were enough to form the third-largest nation.

So we created that country. And petitioned to join the United Nations.

Through a multinational, multimedia campaign and coordinated outdoor efforts in New York, San Francisco, Boston, London, and Paris, we challenged the world to recognize The State of Diabetes. Our message spread worldwide as our website’s online petition garnered signatures from all 7 continents, uniting 14 advocacy groups and gaining the international attention we demanded.
